Doctors from government medical colleges across Kerala, under the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA), staged candlelight protests on Friday evening, accusing the state government of ignoring their long-pending demands.

The teachers have urged the government to clear arrears from the salary revision, correct pay anomalies, and create new posts to ensure timely promotions and smooth functioning in medical colleges. They alleged that the government has failed to act despite several assurances over the years.

The main protest held at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital began at 6.30 pm and was inaugurated by KGMCTA state president Dr Rosnara Beegum. Association leaders said that even after five years of continuous appeals and two Cabinet meetings following their recent agitation, the core issues remain unresolved.

Similar candlelight protests took place simultaneously in all government medical colleges, led by local KGMCTA units. The Kerala Medical PG Association, House Surgeons Association, and Students’ Union also expressed solidarity with the protesting teachers, calling for the government to take immediate action to resolve the crisis.
