Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way healthcare works in India, moving from futuristic technology to an everyday clinical tool. From spotting early signs of retinal disease to identifying strokes, AI is now helping doctors across urban hospitals and rural health centres deliver faster and more accurate diagnoses.
Healthcare providers, including Apollo Hospitals and Roche Diagnostics, are using AI for medical documentation, disease risk profiling, robotic surgery assistance and patient monitoring. These tools improve accuracy, save time, and reduce the pressure on specialists. India’s AI-based diagnostics market was valued at USD 12.87 million in 2024 and is projected to grow to USD 44.87 million by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 23.1 percent.
AI is also making healthcare more accessible for underserved areas. Tools like Remidio’s MediosHI AI, approved by the CDSCO, allow diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma screening without dilating the patient’s pupils. With high sensitivity and specificity, such systems enable early detection and treatment. Experts stress that AI should support, not replace, doctors, and call for strong data privacy and regulatory frameworks to ensure safe and transparent use.
