The ongoing protest by Primary Health Centre (PHC) doctors in Andhra Pradesh has entered its seventh day, with participants continuing their relay hunger strike demanding that the state government address their long-pending issues. The strike, which began last week, has gained statewide attention as doctors across districts join the movement.

A round-table meeting was held at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada, where representatives of various health and contract employee associations expressed solidarity with the striking doctors. The associations urged the government to act promptly and resolve the grievances raised by the medical community.

From Monday, all PHC doctors are expected to wear black badges in protest, symbolising their dissatisfaction with the government’s inaction. They have also warned that if their demands remain unaddressed, they will intensify the agitation through lunch-hour demonstrations and joint action programmes.

The doctors clarified that their protest is not politically motivated but a call for the government to implement assurances made earlier. They emphasised that their goal is to ensure better working conditions and effective healthcare delivery in rural areas.
