A shocking incident occurred at the Narangapatta community health centre in Mannarkkad, Palakkad, on June 19, 2025, when an eight-year-old boy was almost given a paracetamol tablet that contained a metal pin. The drug was prescribed by a doctor to treat the child’s fever. The tablet was later split into two halves to match the correct dose for the child. Upon breaking it, the boy’s parents discovered the metal object embedded within the tablet.
The boy's father, Kallivalppil Haseef, raised his concerns about the serious risk posed if the child had swallowed the contaminated dose. The family promptly lodged a complaint against the health centre. Following accounts from The New Indian Express, local authorities including the Mannarkkad municipality have officially taken up the matter and filed a formal complaint seeking a thorough investigation.
Municipality Chairperson C. Muhammed Basheer stated that the complaint has been forwarded to the Health Minister and steps are being taken to involve the district medical officer. An inquiry has been scheduled to inspect the medicine supply chain, from the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) to the point of dispensing at the health centre, to identify any lapses or potential dangers.
