Ahmedabad's VS Hospital has terminated the contracts of eight doctors and suspended another following an investigation into unauthorized medical research activities. The suspended individual, an associate professor and pharmacologist, was found to have conducted research without the necessary approvals. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) reported that the hospital lacked an ethics committee, a requirement set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
The issue came to light when it was discovered that some doctors were engaging in medical research without obtaining proper permissions or following established procedures. In response, the hospital's medical superintendent prepared a report, which was submitted to the municipal commissioner. Subsequently, an expert committee was formed to investigate the matter thoroughly. Their findings led to the disciplinary actions taken against the involved medical professionals.
The AMC has stated that a comprehensive report detailing the investigation's findings and the actions taken will be released soon. This incident underscores the importance of adhering to ethical standards and regulatory requirements in medical research to ensure patient safety and maintain public trust in healthcare institutions.
