India is witnessing a worrying increase in cancer-related deaths, with four out of ten cases linked to lifestyle factors. Health experts warn that habits such as tobacco use, alcohol consumption, unhealthy diets, and lack of physical activity are playing a major role in this surge.
Recent reports highlight that the country is facing a rapid rise in the number of cancer patients every year. Breast, lung, cervical, and oral cancers remain among the most common, while late detection continues to reduce survival chances. Doctors emphasize that awareness and regular health screenings are key to early diagnosis, which can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
The study also pointed out that lifestyle choices are not the only factor. Environmental pollution, genetic risks, and limited access to advanced healthcare facilities in rural areas are adding to the crisis. With many patients being diagnosed at advanced stages, the treatment burden is also increasing.
Health specialists suggest that preventive measures such as quitting tobacco, maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, and reducing alcohol intake could lower the risks considerably. They stress the need for strong public health campaigns and affordable cancer care to address this growing challenge.
